Putting photos into R.I.

Just a question, would you lads ever consider letting people submit photos into the fanzine? Maybe an odd small pic to go with certain articles(photos that are worth putting to the article!) or even turn the middle 2 pages into a glossy page section with colour photos and then captions linking them to the relevant articles.

I agree with Broph there. Think maybe a "photo of the month" or even one from the time between zines would only ad to it.

Top idea lads, and one that used to come up periodically when we had our editorial meetings. Personally, I'm massively in favour of putting both small (black and white) pics embedded in articles, as well as a big of other photos (maybe higher quality and in colour). There wouldn't be any shortage of pictures- from action images taken by fans at the match, to pictures of BD displays and photos on the road at and en route to aways.

Having said that, I don't play a huge role in the logistics of compiling the fanzine, so I'm unsure of the difficulties of doing something like that. The cost of having the colour part would have to be examined too.

I'd be careful about this one to be honest.
Pictures to me, are what go into an official programme when they have nothing to write about.
I'd make sure that the written content is there first before publishing and don't just throw some pictures in to take up space.

This issue came up years ago and at the time was shot down....I have to say though, I was against the idea and still am. I think if you go down the road of glossy colour pics, the character of the fanzine is completely lost. Black/white pics at a push, but colour pics is a definite no no for me.

On a wider issue, it is vital to get more people writing more regularly, or else the fanzine will disappear.....thank God for LS and Howth in particular- without them, we would have had no fanzines for the last two seasons.

It was discussed years ago, but as long as the zine continues to printed on the papar that we use, it just doesn't work.

Unless technology has moved on since the 90s..................

PS:Good to see some feedback. :)

Be good to see a few pics in the fanzine, a few lads I know would be against buying the fanzine cause they find it a wee bit boring.

As NS says, good to see feedback on this issue and hopefully we will get more ideas and input during the coming months too.
As others have said this is brought up from time to time but factors such as layout, cost etc have always prevented this from happening. I'm not against the idea, I don't think that it would be a bad thing, as long was it was different from the content you might get in national papers, or the official programme.
If people were interested, I'd suggest we could look at something being added to the website to accommodate pictures, or if people wanted to send in articles with pictures, a text only version could be printed in the 'zine and the version with pictures on the website.

To echo VR and NPR, the written content is the lifeblood of the zine and it is vital that people contribute articles if and when they can. I'm sure that a new issue won't be far away from the beginning of the season, so now is as good a time as any to send something in.

It couldn't cost that much extra to print black and white photos alongside already black and white text, theres some new programs out there these days that you can layout everything you want all you have to do is digitalise them and import them in.
